Madrid, with music in its soul
A time comes in the life of a traveller when she or he won't have a single penny, and looking for free attractions become main activity when visiting a city. Madrid, one of the top main destinations in Europe, can be a very expensive part of your journey, but with these tips you could perfectly enjoy it without spending money.
One good tourist attraction is the Royal Palace, a magnificent building home for old kings of Spain, with amazing rooms, museums, halls, staircases, paintings and ornaments on the inside, and an amazing architecture on the outside. It's the largest royal palace and one of the largest buildings Europe, and the entrance for EU citizens is free on Wednesdays, day that also happen the Change of the Guard, and Thursday afternoon.
Also royal was the Parque del Buen Retiro, now open to everyone who wants to feel the good vibes and stroll on those beautiful gardens. There are also museums, monuments and galleries in the park, but the best thing about it is that it's free. Some of the best art galleries in the city have a free entrance time once or twice a week, like the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina SofÃa that is free at weekends and has a collection with paintings of Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso.
It's incredible the things for free that you can find in a city. In Madrid you can also visit an ancient Egyptian temple in the Parque del Oeste, sent there in the 60's as symbol of gratitude for Spain’s help in protecting other temples. The Temple of Debod has some two thousand years and before being brought to Madrid it was in the region of Aswan.
To enjoy the nightlife, you can catch the street parties and events that happen around the city, and even some bars offer free entrance to the flamenco's performances. Madrid is a top destination in Europe and pretty enjoyable on the budget.
