Greek mythology, history and natural beauty
Mykonos is the Ibiza of Greece, described as unbelievably beautiful island in the Cyclade. It looks the same as in post cards: white little houses with flowers and blue windows and doors, just like in the musical Mama mia, hand painted streets, lots of little churches and amazing views.
Mykonos is famous destination for party animals and fun seekers, but also those ones looking for a peace and simple beauty, will find their own, perfect Mykonos. The island is huge example of unique Cycladic architecture , settled in a perfect picturesque fishing village bay, where fishermen start their mission long before the sunrise
Mykonos is the best of all Greek islands, well connected to Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Crete, Rhodes, Kos and all the major Cyclades islands by ferry. So once you get bored or need some time out, take a ferry and you are in the next paradise. Mykonos promises a lot, and gives you even more, it's that kind of place, where you won't stop capturing in your mind and your camera.
The buildings are like whitewashed organic cubes standing among the azure waters, narrow alleys and streets with colorful flowers on balconies will make you feel like living a fairy tale or your very own musical, however the contrast between gleaming whiteness and incredibly blue sky and even deeper blue sparkling sea, is breathtaking.
Mykonos was once a very poor village, where people used survive on fishing and ship construction, working very hard, the tourism started only back in 1950's, once tourists started to discover the beauty of the island. The locals still aren't sure, whether it saved the economy or it has taken over too much, it's now popular for rich and famous, gays and single student travelers seeking for a fun.
The island is often named the Jewel of the Aegean Sea, with sandy beaches, deep blue sea, clear waters and fresh air. Mykonos can be explored only on foot, the best season to visit getting some pleasure and peace would be autumn and spring, when you still will be able to enjoy the real Mykonos beauty and weather, during the summer it gets too packed.
Remember that it's not just a crazy Greek Ibiza, Greece offers splendid sailing waters, between Santorini and Mykonos, so you could enjoy Greek villages by only watching them from the Sea, sailing and swimming in turquoise waters, lazing on white-sand beaches, enjoying an exquisite cuisine and getting lost in Greeks mythology, history and natural beauty!
