Ferragosto, get rest!
The fact that in August every year, especially after the 15th, there are no Romans left, it's not just something They Say, that's truer than true. You have maybe heard of a holiday called the Ferragosto in Italy, which actually dates back in 18BC when the Emperor Augustus, which is the rest period. The public holiday falls on August 15, literally from Latin meaning, rest of Augustus. The holiday has survived throughout centuries, and still is very serious thing for Italians, it's a sin to work during this time. Mare Mare Mare, that's where you will find the whole Italy.
Ferragosto in Rome, offers tourists to rent Rome for a while, no residents will be found. But before they leave, they make sure, you are left in good hands and still enjoying the capital, many museums will be open and fabulous fireworks will show off, the shows and concerts will be held all over, from the city center to the beach.
It might be strange to any other nation, that Italians would just take off for few weeks, pretty much leaving careers and obligations behind, but I guess it has something to do with the Mediterranean philosophy of making time to relax and enjoy life. Maybe they are right and regardless of present circumstances, we should all just put a big Stop on everything. Of course, many out there will disagree, but Everything changes, it's a game of luck, except the fact that Berlusconi will never go:) he has become a phenomenal thing in here, just like Ferragosto.
Come to Rome, you wont regret it, rent the capital for a while , Romans aren't home , they are enjoying beautiful beaches and sun, mountains and the best views ever, so why not to use their beautiful home town to have some fun, they have it forever, why can't you have it for a moment? Hop on Vespa and play your very own Roman Holiday scene, sit at one of the gorgeous bars on Via Veneto and play La Dolce Vita. Enjoy!
