Looking forward to welcoming you to Dubrovnik. Thanks for voting us Third Best Seasonal Hostel worldwide on Hostelworld.com. We hope to make your stay a great one!
Fresh* Sheets was opened by travellers for travellers in 2008. Run by a friendly Japanese-Canadian/Croatian couple and a great team of knowledgeable staff, it is the only legal hostel in the Old Town - a UNESCO world heritage site. Located just seconds away from the famous cliff-side bar 'Buza' and a short hop to an awesome secret swimming hole where you can jump into the clear blue Adriatic Sea. You'll be staying in a quiet neighbourhood, away from the noise and bustle of the cruise ship crowds, garbage crews, and all night revelers. But still just minutes away from great restaurants, shops, and bars.
We're a small but happy hostel because it allows us to treat all our guests like they deserve to be treated. We are fortunate enough to have been recommended by Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, In Your Pocket, Time Out, Rick Steve's, and awarded 'Third Best Seasonal Hostel in the World' by Hostelworld. Our most famous guest is Tyrion Lannister but that is a long story...
Our rooms are basic and clean with shared bathrooms. We have comfortable and spacious 4 and 6 bed dorms. Our Double Bed Private room (Heaven) is a cosy little room with a sea view. It shares a common entrance area and bathroom on the top floor with our 4 bed dorm.
We have made arrangements for guests who appreciate the communal and social nature of a hostel experience but want more privacy than can be found in mixed dorms. For convenience, we've added basic single and double rooms and apartments in private houses in the neighborhood that can be booked online. While these rooms ARE NOT part of Fresh* Sheets, you are absolutely welcome to use and enjoy our facilities during your stay.
To help you prepare for your trip, we've put together some information about Dubrovnik. For our guests, our staff at Fresh* Sheets will be happy to give you some insider tips and help answer any of your questions when you arrive:):
.:Things To Do In Dubrovnik:.
If you can fit it into your schedule, give yourself at least a couple days to explore and enjoy one of the Med's most magnificent walled cities. That way you'll get to see how the town really lives and breathes.
The best time to visit is in the spring or early fall when the weather is generally sunny and there are less tourists about. But during peak season (June - September), the town gets a lot more lively and if you avoid the hordes of cruise ship and package tourists along the main strip, you''ll have a great time.
King's Landing
They've filmed the last two seasons of 'Game of Thrones' in Dubrovnik. If you are a fan, you can impress your friends and sit on the same couch that Tyrion Lannister passed out on in our hostel;) or catch a ferry and do a day trip to Qarth (filmed on Lokrum island) or visit the Arboretum in Trseteno. You can also discover many locations in and around the Old Town that were featured as King's Landing.
Walk The Walls
This is an absolute must. You just have to time it right. Plan on doing the walk early in the morning or early evening so that you avoid the cruise ship traffic. Otherwise, you may find yourself sweating and doing something that feels more like waiting in a line at Disneyland.
Hit The Water
A few meters from Fresh* Sheets, there are two great cliffside bars where local youth prove their mettle. You can go cliff-jumping into the clear blue Adriatic and then chill out on the rocks afterwards (make sure to talk to our staff so that we can show you the safe launch points). If you have the time, you can also hop a small ferry from the Old Town Port to Lokrum island where the cliffs are even better.
We can also arrange kayaking trips for all our guests. It's a great way to start the day and you'll get the chance to paddle around the Old Town and the nearby island of Lokrum where you'll find a secret cove and some of the clearest water you'll ever see. If you want to go deeper, local dive shops offer excursions for both inexperienced, amateur, and professional divers.
Party!!!
Although the Fresh* bar we used to run in another location in the Old Town is closed, for better or worse, we helped transplant the notion of cocktail buckets to several bars in town. During the season, you can get your cocktail bucket on every night at Cafe Galerie (Kuniceva 5 / 6th street on your left from the main Pile Gate). Also, Club Revelin has been throwing some epic nights with world renowned DJs.
War Photo Limited
There are few physical reminders of the the siege that occurred in the early 90s. Although it doesn't seem like something to do on holiday, you'll gain a much greater appreciation of the city and its occupants when you get the chance to see, even briefly, how much it has gone through and changed. War Photo Limited is a well-run gallery and a valuable resource. There is a space dedicated to images of what occurred in the region but the rotating exhibitions of world-renowned photojournalists cover many different conflicts. During the hot summer days, it also offers a welcome respite from the heat and a good place to reflect. Definitely worth a visit.
Do Laundry
Really? It's a shameless plug, but Sanja has just opened one of the only self-service coin-operated laundromats in the entire Balkans. It has a great retro vibe and there's a bar next door. Need we say more? Oh yes, it's called Sanja & Rosie's Launderette and it's located just outside Ploce Gate.
Get In Shape
For those looking to get in shape, you'll notice that Dubrovnik has a lot of stairs. However, if you want to go on a run, we've spent the winter sacrificing a few beer calories to find the best jogging routes. If that isn't your thing, we organize hikes up the hill overlooking the Old Town. Aside from the stunning views and cold beer at top, you'll get the extra bonus of meeting Maxie the hostel mascot - a handsome english setter who we rescued without realizing what an exercise freak he is. We are also planning on setting up a yoga center with drop in classes.
*'Double Bed Private' room (Heaven) is a cosy room with a sea view. It shares a common entrance area and bathroom with a four-bed dorm.
*'Basic Double Bed Private Shared Bathroom' and 'Basic Single Private Shared Bathroom' are not part of Fresh* Sheets. As we get a lot of requests for more private rooms, we've made arrangements with a neighbour. The rooms are basic and clean and located only several meters away from Fresh* Sheets. You are still welcome to use and enjoy our facilities during your stay, including: free breakfast, common area, kitchen, travel info, movie nights, internet and wi-fi.
*A government tourist tax of approximately 1 EUR/night will be added to your balance upon arrival.
