El Warung is a cozy, locally owned hostel located in the vibrant Las Canteras area of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Our 12-bed establishment is spread out over two floors. Each decorated and styled in-house, with a choice of 4 bed dorms and 2 bed dorms, common areas, four bathrooms and two fully equipped kitchens where you can enjoy our free breakfast. Upon arrival you will be greeted by one of our team of international staff members who will gift you with your keys, our free wifi, an El Warung-designed map of the island and advice and recommendations that only seasoned travellers can offer. There is no reception desk, which means no barriers between our guests and us, your hosts.

Across the street is one of the best examples in Europe of where the city meets the beach - the 3.5km stretch of Playa de Las Canteras, lined with a broad pedestrian street and enjoying some of the finest weather of any city in the world. The beach itself has both calmer swimming areas and a series of surf breaks, and the northern end merges into El Confital, a striking landmark of cliffs and rocky beaches. Nestled amongst the streets surrounding El Warung are countless dives and eateries serving up the best in local fare and local characters. There is a supermarket opposite the hostel (open seven days), and two closed-roof marketplaces within walking distance for those seeking fresh, authentic Canarian produce and encounters. Every Saturday evening Las Canteras vibrates with the sound of live music, spread out around different venues and attracting lively crowds.

A short bus ride ((or a 30 minute cycle, if you take advantage of our free bike service) from El Warung is the historical centre of the city, spanning the neighbourhoods of Vegueta and Triana. Here you will find the beauty of European-style buildings and cobbled streets, and the famous €2 tapas night every Thursday. There are also more upmarket retailers, interspersed with second-hand stores, boutique cinemas and some of the bigger bars and clubs.

Aside from the attractions of the city, El Warung has plenty to keep you occupied as well. We are actively involved in the extensive outdoor lifestyle that Gran Canaria has to offer, and as avid supporters of the independent traveller we encourage you to be as well. We also have all sorts of water gear to rent, surf lessons can be arranged on request, and we may even join you for a wave or drag out our stand-up paddle for you to try. If hiking or climbing are more your style, we know just the places to go and the people to go with. We want your experience of Las Palmas to be the same as our own.
